Sixers

The Philadelphia 76ers are a professional basketball team based in Philadelphia. Formed as a National Basketball Association expansion team from 1946 to 1949, the Sixers have been one of the most successful franchises in American sports history. They won their first NBA championship, and now they’re on course for another after beating LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers last night .

The “sixers schedule” is the official website of the Philadelphia 76ers. It provides up-to-date information on game schedules, tickets, and team news.

On November 1, 2021, Getty Blazers guard Damian Lillard receives a pass with Sixers big Andre Drummond guarding.

For their third game in five days, the Sixers were severely short-handed. Tobias Harris (health and safety) and Joel Embiid (load management) both sat out. Danny Green also suffered a hamstring injury during the game. That didn’t stop Doc Rivers’ team from fighting all night long and finally winning 113-103.

Seth Curry led the way with 23 points, while Georges Niang (21 points) led the second unit and was greeted with MVP shouts. On the defensive end, they threw Tyrese Maxey, Matisse Thybulle, Furkan Korkmaz, and Niang at Blazers star Damian Lillard, who was agitated. Andre Drummond, who was stepping in for Embiid, had a strong showing in the paint. He racked up 14 points, 15 rebounds, five steals, and seven assists on the night.

On Wednesday, November 3, the team will host the Chicago Bulls at home. With the victory, the Sixers moved to 5-2.

Five Things We Learned From the Sixers-Blazers Matchup

1. Tyrese Maxey Can Defend: Tyrese Maxey, the new starting point guard, did an excellent job of containing Damian Lillard. The Blazers’ star had a poor offensive night, shooting 7-of-20 from the floor (2-of-9 from distance) for a minus-14. He only had eight points at the halftime break. Maxey, with the support of Thybulle and the rest of the team, pressed the problem on defense. On the other end, the second-year guard didn’t back down. To open the third quarter, Maxey (10 points, seven assists) drove to the rim for an incredible and-one chance and drew a foul on Lillard. It was devoured by the Philly faithful.

2. Makeshift Second Unit: Rivers had to empty the bench with Embiid and Harris out, and it showed with the second unit. Paul Reed, Georges Niang, Shake Milton, Isaiah Joe, and Matisse Thybulle were the first to take a shot at it, and they held the fort. They went into halftime with a 54-53 edge. They were led by Milton (10 points) and Niang (21 points). And Reed (four points) made the most of his first non-garbage time minutes in the second quarter, hustling on every play. In six minutes, he did rack up three fouls.

Since Charles Barkley in 1990, Andre Drummond became the first Sixer to have a 10/15/5/5 game.

3. Drummond Deserves It: Drummond got out to a hot start, racking up six points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals in the opening six minutes. Throughout the night, he was an immovable thing in the paint. With 2:22 left, Drummond had a critical close out on Lillard, which resulted in three points the opposite way after Curry hit a three-pointer to put the Sixers up 111-101.

4. We Want Lillard: From the start, Sixers supporters made it clear how they felt about Lillard. They applauded heartily instead of serenading him with the traditional “Sucks” shout before visiting player introductions. Throughout the game, they began chanting “We Want Lillard,” including a crazy incident early in the first quarter as the six-time All-Star went to the free-throw line. He was in charge of it. The “Lillard Fan Club” has a branch in Philadelphia.

5. Closing Time: For an extended stretch in the fourth quarter, Rivers used a mix-and-match lineup that included Thybulle, Niang, Curry, Korkmaz, and Maxey to stop a Portland comeback. Drummond was strangely gone early in the frame, then reappeared with 5:22 remaining to assist in closing the door. When Niang went to the free-throw line, fans chanted “MVP” at him. The new stretch four scored 21 points in 26 minutes, making him the Sixers’ most underappreciated acquisition. Perhaps the NBA as a whole.
